Dimapur, December 2 (MExN): With a realisation that technical skills alone are not sufficient to make a good extension officer, State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (SAMETI) organised two-day trainers’ training on ‘Communication skills for effective extension delivery’ from November 30 to December 1 for ATMA Assistant Technology Managers (ATM). The training aimed to improve the communication and extension skills of the functionaries and to assist them to teach and pass on the skills to the farmers, informed a press release from Director SAMETI & Principal I.E.T.C Medziphema.
Resource persons for the training were Dr Ithika C Swu, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI and Tiajungla Longchar, Deputy Project Director, SAMETI.
The training covered important topics like Concept, Meaning, Process and Factors Affecting Communication; Key Communicators – Identification and their Role in Agricultural Development; Verbal, Non Verbal and Written Communication and Communication Constraints Faced at Field Level – Discussion and Way Forward.
It also included an exposure visit to Molvum village under Medziphema block, where the trainees interacted with the farmers from Molvum and Sochunoma villages. The trainees were also given hands on exercise and they delivered group presentations.
The valedictory function was chaired by Sentinaro Longchar, DPD SAMETI, while feedback on the training was given by participants from all the districts. Special guest Dr. Watimongla Jamir, Vice Principal, IETC & In-charge Bio Chemistry Lab Medziphema in her valedictory address congratulated the trainees on the successful completion of the training and encouraged them to take forward the learned skills and utilise them practically for transferring technologies to the farming community.
The training, which saw a good turnout of participants from all districts of the State, concluded with distribution of certificates and training handout to the trainees.
