Dimapur, May 30 (MExN): The Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA), Home Department in collaboration with the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and CD&HG (SDRF) Dimapur conducted Community First Responder (CFR) training in four subdivisions – Old Peren, Ahthibung, Ngwalwa and Jalukie (Dungki village) from May 23 to 27.
In old Peren, the training was conducted from May 23 to 25. A total of 180 participants were trained on a training module developed by the NSDMA covering topics like first-aid, search and rescue methods, basic introduction to the human body, bandaging, CPR etc.
The concept of the CFR is based on the fact that the community is always the first responder in any disaster as they have an inherent capacity to respond immediately. However, past experiences have shown that after every disaster, response comes from well-intentioned but untrained personnel who have little or no regard for personal safety, stated a press release, adding this at times escalates the after-effects of disaster and further endangers the victims.
“The realization that response will be fastest and most effective if responder is trained has brought about a need to intensify the CFR training. Basing on this concept and also drawing from past experiences, the NSDMA developed a module for training of the Community First Responders,” said the release issued by Khrienuo Metha, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Nagaland. Khrienuo mentioned that the CFR training is being conducted in a phase wise in all the eleven districts.

Altogether 60 participants from 6 wards/ colonies are taking part in the 5-day training organized by NSDMA in collaboration with DDMA, HG & CD and SDRF Zunheboto.
