Kohima, April 29 (MExN): Community Forest Nurseries have been established in six villages under Tseminyu and Chiephobozou ranges, namely Tsonsa, New Tesophenyu, Nachama, Tuophema, Chiechama and Phezha.
During the inaugural programme on April 27, Rongsenlemla Imchen, District Forest Officer (DFO) Kohima highlighted the importance of raising local species in the nurseries and also stressed on the sustainable maintenance of the nurseries for the following years.
She said the nurseries were established by the community under the FDA scheme to act as seedling base for plantation in the project site for the current planting season as well as for community conservation activities in the village.
Nurseries were established in most of the project villages under Kohima, Chiephobozou, and Tseminyu ranges during the current season with an endeavor to minimize pressure on seedling requirement from Range Nurseries so as to dodge sapling casualty during transportation and bank time for the public.
The communities assured that they will put all efforts to raise and maintain the plantation and also abide by the rules of conservation in action and spirit.
The department appreciated the efforts of the community for their cooperation with regard to forests and environmental conservation.
The programme was attended by forest personnel of Kohima, Tseminyu & Chiephobozou range, local functionaries, JFMC and women functionaries.
