The Department of Land Resources, Nagaland organised Community Mobilization programme under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana- Watershed Development Component (PMKSY-WDC 2-0) at Khezhakeno village under Phek district on January 28.

PMKSY-WDC 2-0 aims at ensuring ecological integrity of the watersheds while providing sustainable and equitable economic activities to the communities residing in the watershed project areas.

Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Land Resources Department Advisor G Ikuto Zhimomi assured to recommend Springshed development and watershed projects at Khezhakeno.

Calling upon the community to stay connected and cooperate with the present government, he said, “Do not go against the government.” He also told the people to be with the government and avail the developmental packages for better and prosperous generation.

He called upon the Nagas to remain united as one for prosperity and a bright future.

Zhimomi along with the department officials visited Tsotawo, a spirited flat stone upon which if a basket of paddy is parched in the sun, it generates double-fold.

Kevekha Kevin Zehol, Commissioner & Secretary for Land Resources Department noted that the growth anddevelopment of Nagaland as a state depend on the progress of individuals in every village.

For this, he emphasised the importance of extending the developmental packages to all parts of Nagaland, as every region holds equal importance.

LRD advocates coffee drinking culture
Land Resources Department Director, Albert Ngullie highlighted the enormous scope of coffee farming in Nagaland. He said that Land Resources Department is the sole implementing agency for coffee in Nagaland.

The Director announced that the state government has declared coffee as Nagaland’s flagship crop, a move led by the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and recognised internationally. The initiative includes installing processing units in large plantation areas and establishing marketing linkages.

The government plans to expand coffee cultivation across all 17 districts to drive economic growth and generate employment, he said. The department has been advocating coffee drinking culture and coffee experiential tourism in the state, he said.

Maintaining the coffee plantation will boost the economy of the state, Ngullie called upon the people to come forward and gain maximum benefit from it.

He outlined the Springfield Management Scheme, which aims to revive water sources and address water shortages across the state.

Agnes Phewhuo, DPO Phek also encouraged the people to take up coffee farming. She assured that the department will assist them through training and demonstration. Elizabeth Ngullie, Secretary Land Resources Department, Government of Nagaland, Chepetso Koza, General Secretary, Chakhesang Public Organization and several other dignitaries also present at the programme.

Earlier, the programme was chaired by Kolhoupe Koza, VDB secretary Khezhakeno while welcome address was delivered by D. Lhouchinyi, VCC Khezhakeno. Rev C Ngochinyi, pastor KCRC and Dikha Sono, pastor NCRC Khezhakeno prayed for the programme while vote of thanks was proposed by M Thochii Koza.

Later, the officials also visited Chida Resort.
