A two-days community outreach program held from October 27 to 28 at the Training Resource Centre in Longpang, Tuensang, organised by the Department Of Education NU Kohima in collaboration with the Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS) brought together teachers, PhD scholars from education department NU, specialists, Sochum wardens, parents, and children, aiming to foster educational development and strengthen community ties.
The event was led by resource persons from Nagaland University’s Department of Education, Meriema Kohima, including Dr Limala, Narola Chuba, Megosielie Khate, Kedouoneinuo Solo, and Viseizonou Metha. Participants included 20 wardens from Sochum Morung education, and teachers from NSCBAV Residential Hostel in Tuensang, as well as 60 parents from the villages of Hakchang, Sangsangyu, and Maksha Sochum.
Key topics addressed throughout the program included various teaching methods and strategies designed to equip both wardens and parents with essential educational tools. Parents attended sessions on responsible parenthood, challenges, and issues in education, community participation while tutors engaged in discussions on the methods of teaching math, and methods of teaching science. Participant explored topics like professional ethics, accountability, and counselling skills to better support their children’s educational journeys. The program also includes discussion on various sided topics design to enable warden and parents to understand their roles and responsibilities better and create a more supportive environment of learning for children living in the village.
The programme opened with a welcome address by Chusa of Eleutheros Christian Society (ECS), and the facilitator followed with a greeting and exhortation, emphasizing the importance of community support in education. The event concluded with “Morung Night,” a bonfire celebration for the children, promoting a sense of unity and cultural pride. Rev Dr Chingmak, secretary of ECS, extended heartfelt gratitude in his closing remarks, commending the dedication of participants and resource persons in advancing educational opportunities for the community.
