Shamator, February 7 (MExN): The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Tuensang, successfully organised Jal Arpan Diwas at Chessore village on February 6 and at Sangphur village on February 7 under Shamator district, as part of the ongoing implementation of the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Er Lanu, Junior Engineer, and was supported by the JJM–ISA, Tuensang Division, in collaboration with Alongphi Welfare Society.
The events witnessed enthusiastic participation from the Village Council, WATSAN Committee, Water Quality Monitoring and Surveillance (WQMS) team, Field Testing Kit (FTK) users and women members, reflecting strong community engagement in ensuring safe drinking water services.
A comprehensive training session on water quality testing was conducted using Field Testing Kits, enabling villagers to understand the importance of regular water quality monitoring at both household and community levels.
Practical demonstrations on the operation and maintenance (O&M) of the rural drinking water supply system were also carried out, with emphasis on sustainability, source protection and uninterrupted supply of clean drinking water. The programme highlighted the importance of community ownership and long-term responsibility for maintaining water infrastructure.
In the presence of the village Sarpanch and council members, a Jal Jeevan Mission declaration and pledge was undertaken by the community, reaffirming their commitment to safeguarding water quality, conducting periodic testing and collectively maintaining the drinking water system for the health and well-being of all residents.
Meanwhile, Jal Arpan Diwas was also observed at Sangphur village on February 7 under Shamator district as part of the Jal Jeevan Mission’s community-centric approach to providing safe and sustainable drinking water. The programme there was organised under the supervision of Er Lanu, Junior Engineer, with active support from the JJM–ISA, Tuensang Division, and Alongphi Welfare Society.
