A press note from the CVC termed the crime as “barbaric and inhuman,” and stated that it is “totally condemnable and intolerable to the people of Chumoukedima village in particular and the Nagas in general.”
“The nature and action clearly indicates that it is done from the outside entity of Chumoukedima area and dumped under the jurisdiction of Chumoukedima village with the intention to degrade and damage the peaceful pride and status of Chumoukedima village,” it said. CVC further cautioned against such unwanted activities in the future and stated that “if any individual or group is found violating, the village warning shall be fully responsible even for the above mentioned incident.” It further appealed for the civil and police authority to expedite the investigation and bring the culprits to book.
ASU assures protection to Karbis
The Angami Students’ Union (ASU) has also condemned the “act perpetrated on the innocent nine people.” Stating if at all the killings of the nine persons in Dimapur are related to the recent violence between the Karbi and Naga people in Karbi Anglong Assam, the ASU assured “full protection and security to Karbi people in Kohima and that there is no reason for the Karbis in Kohima to panic.”
The ASU also asserted that “if anyone touches them, ASU will be the first to go against those anti-social elements.” The act perpetrated on the innocent people itself is anti-Naga, it added. “As per Naga custom there is nothing that allows even an enemy to be shot by tying their hands.”
Further, ASU affirmed that the Karbi and Nagas will continue to exist as neighbors for all times to come and “it is only us to maintain the good relationship or destroy it.” Therefore, ASU has appealed both the Nagas and Karbis to restrain themselves from creating such "unwanted situation."
