Concerted effort needed to prevent HIV/AIDS

Longleng, August 20 (MExN): The NNP+ in collaboration with Yingli Mission Society with the support from LFA-UNAIDS conducted District level Advocacy Campaign on HIV and AIDS with the key stakeholders on August 19 at Lempong Hall, Longleng under the theme “Together we can!”

Changlong Phom, P.S to S. Pangnyu Phom, Parliamentary Secretary, RD & REPA graced the campaign as guest speaker (on behalf of S. Pangyu). While speaking on the theme, he said that HIV is a reality in the society and therefore he challenged the Phom community not to fully depend on the Government or funding agencies, but all the sections in the society should give a concerted efforts so as to prevent from further spread of disease and to reduce stigma and discrimination attached to HIV epidemic and those who are living with it. He mentioned that they are always ready to extend their support and therefore encouraged those who are having the virus to come forward and avail the services. The welcome note was addressed by C. K. Nihekhu, Deputy Commissioner, while Sonia Singh, IPS, S.P presented a slide on the topic HIV and AIDS – a challenge to humanity. The HIV and AIDS scenario of Longleng was updated by Dr.Kongyan, Dy. CMO. The officials from Government departments, civil societies, churches, Students community and partner NGOs have attended the programme. During the short interaction session, the penalists include key functionaries from Phom People’s Council, Phomla Hoichem, Phom Students’ Conference, Association of Phom Graduates and Officer and NNP+.  

Y. Nuklu Phom, Executive Secretary, Phom Baptist Christian Association (PBCA) presented the key recommendations for future implementation towards HIV and AIDS issues concerning awareness programme on HIV and AIDS, reducing Stigma, blood test, care and support for People Living with HIV and AIDS to be initiated through partnership/forum comprised of District Administration, Hospitals, Churches and Apex NGOs in Longleng District.This was informed in a press note issued by NNP+ State Project Manager, Longyim Tzudir.
