Condemnation, demand for justice over May 8 killing

DIMAPUR, MAY 10 (MExN): Shocked and angered over the killing of a post-graduate student of Unity College at Zeliangrong colony, Dimapur on May 8 by a Dy. kilonser of NSCN (Khango) group, condemnation poured in from different quarters on Wednesday demanding befitting punishment to the accused as per the law of the land. 

ANCSU: The All Nagaland College Students’ Union (ANCSU) such kind of cowardly acts is a threat to society at time when Nagas at all levels are relentlessly pursuing the agenda of peace and harmony. It has appealed the law enforcing agencies to leave no stone unturned in awarding befitting capital punishment to the culprit as per the law of the land. It also demanded that no individuals, groups and organizations shall bail out the perpetrator at any cost. 

ENSF/ENCSU: The Eastern Naga Students’ Federation (ENSF) and Eastern Nagaland College Students Union said the heinous act have directly outraged the sentiments of the entire Eastern Naga populace and the Nagas in general. It said such lawless activity committed to another human to the extent of violating the human rights enshrined under Article 21 of the Indian Constitution should be out rightly condemned by all. The Federation also appealed the NSCN (Khango) group to fully co-operate in order to ensure that due process of law take place against the accused. 

MLA Azo Nienu: MLA & Leader of NPF Legislature Party, Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu said such inhumane crime committed by the so called National worker is nothing but purely misusing his power over an innocent girl and such act of crime is unacceptable and have no place in the society. 

Azo also appealed the law enforcing agencies to book the accused as per the law of the land and deliver justice to the victim at the earliest possible time. He also conveyed condolences to the bereaved family members. 

DNSU: The Dimapur Naga Students' Union (DNSU) appealed to the law enforcing agencies to serve appropriate justice as per the law of the land. It condemned the Naga national workers for their misuse of power and weapons without any valid reason in residential environments, killing innocent students/citizens. 

It meanwhile expressed utmost displeasure on the part of Dimapur Civil Hospital for allegedly denying immediate postmortem to the victim's family while telling them it could be done only the next morning. This shows the failure of the hospital's administration which must not be ignored, it added. 

KTC: Strongly condemning the brutal murder of Late Supou P, the Khiamniungan Tribal Council (KTC) appealed to the law enforcing authority to punish the culprits as per relevant section of law. The council also extended heartfelt condolence to the bereaved family members. 

KSU: The Konyak Students’ Union (KSU) condemned the brutal and mindless act of the accused which not only resulted in the lost of an innocent life but brought untold grief and pain to the victim’s family. It also appealed the concerned legal apparatus to accord befitting punishment under relevant law of the land and ensure that no elements obstruct the process until justice is served. 

PSU: The Phom Students’ Conference (PSU) while condemning the brutal murder appealed upon the concerned authority to pursue the case at the earliest and award befitting punishment to the accused. It said if justice was not delivered, no woman will feel safe even in the confines of their own homes. 

NLSF: The Nagaland Law Students’ Federation (NLSF) said the Constitution of India guarantees citizens under Article 21 the protection of life and personal liberty, and human rights protects the right to life in Article 2. It said nobody, including the government can try to end the life of a human. It has therefore demanded that the person involved in the act must not be allowed to go unpunished. 

USSC: The United Sangtam Students’ Conference (USSC) while condemning has called the attention of the government and law enforcing agencies to book the culprits under non-bailable offence and award vigorous punishment as per the law of the land. 

“The atrocious deportation and gruesome killing of our bright and talented sister is intolerable and unacceptable. Such an inhuman act in a civilized society cannot be compromised under any circumstances,” it stated.  

ZCC: The Zeliangrong Colony Council, youth and women organization while condemning the inhuman act of taking life lamented that it has greatly disturbed the peaceful atmosphere and created a fear psychosis among the citizens of the colony. It has therefore apprised the law enforcing agencies to thoroughly investigate the crime and ensure befitting punishment to the culprit at the earliest. 

NCD: The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) said it was appalled to learn how a cadre of NSCN-Khango, fighting for Naga freedom, with lethal weapon entered into someone's living room and committed such heinous diabolical act on innocent student.

It appealed the law enforcing agency to award befitting punishment to the miscreant cadre. It also appealed the Government of Nagaland to extend possible financial help to the family who lost their beloved daughter unfortunately. 

Other organizations and student bodies condemning the crime include the Eastern Nagaland People’s Union Dimapur; Peshu Range Students’ Union, Patho Range Students’ Union, Sangtam Students’ Union Dimapur, Khiamniungan Students’ Union Tuensang, Chang Wedoshi Setshang, Khiamniungan Students’ Union, Kohima, Khiamniungan Union Tuensang, Khiamniungan Union Kohima, Khiamniungan Menyiu Hoikam Tuensang Unit, Nokhu Range Students’ Union, Pang Students’ Union, Khiamniungan Students’ Union Saksi, Peshu Students’ Union, Khiamniungan Students’ Union Dimapur, Yimkhiung Akherü Arihako, Dimapur Eastern Nagaland Students Union, Thang Public Organization and Thang Students’ Union 

'Address the vices of gun culture'

Managing Board, Faculty & Non-Teaching Staffs, Alumni Association, Unity College Students’ Council (UG & PG) of Unity College while expressing sorrow, grief and condemnation over the horrific act said the loss of a young and promising life, like that of Supou P, is an irreparable tragedy that shakes the very foundation of our society. 

“Her untimely demise not only put an end to these aspirations but also left an indelible void in the hearts of their loved ones, friends, and the entire community. This shocking event has robbed us of the potential contributions that Supou P could have made to our society, further intensifying the pain and sorrow we all feel. It is a stark reminder of the pressing need to address the underlying issues that breed such violence and ensure that justice is served for the victim and their grieving family.”

In the light of this tragedy, it strongly urged the concerned authorities, to employ all available resources and the full force of the law to ensure that the perpetrator responsible for this heinous crime is swiftly brought to justice. It also implored the government to take immediate action to address the vices of gun culture in our land.
