Condolences pour in for Lungbe Meru

Dimapur, November 27 (MExN): Condolences poured in for former MLA Lungbe Meru, who passed away at CIHSR, Dimapur on November 27.

In a condolence message, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio stated that Meru, who joined politics in 1964 as the first MLA from 7 Peren Assembly Constituency, “had genuine concerns for the Naga political issue that he along with 11 other MLAs of the Democratic Party of Nagaland, resigned from the Nagaland Legislative Assembly to seek a solution for the cause.”

Rio said that late Meru was also actively involved in church activities and was a member of the committee involved in translation of the Bible in Zeme dialect. He also played a vital role in the establishment of the Zeme Baptist Church in Dimapur, he added.

Stating that Meru’s demise has created a huge vacuum for the Nagas as a whole, Rio together with his wife, conveyed heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

TR Zeliang: In a separate message, Opposition leader TR Zeliang remembered Lunghinggwangbe Meru, popularly known as Sh. Longbe Meru, as a visionary Leader whose contribution to the welfare of the Zeliang community will be remembered. 

“I remember him as a gentleman who gave his best to the Society with positivity where ever he was. Later in life, he became a Church Leader serving as Pastor and as Head Deacon at Zeme Baptist Church, Dimapur and was a founding member of the Church,” Zeliang stated.

“During this time of grief and sorrow, I pray that God grant peace and solace to all the bereaved family members and all his near and dear ones,” he added.

EX-PAN: The Ex- Parliamentarian’s Association of Nagaland meanwhile mourned the demise of “a humble leader, who had served his entire life for the welfare of the public.”

It said that Meru, who was also a member of the Naga Council Dimapur, was a loving husband and father, whose death is not only a loss to his family members but also to the Naga people.
