Condolences pour in for R K Peter

Senapati, May 9 (MExN): Following the protocols of Covid-19 guidelines and maintaining social distancing, the private condolence service was held in honour of veteran Maram Naga Leader late R K Kamba Peter at Maram Centre Village on May 8, according to a press release from the Maram Union on May 9.


Minister Tribal Affairs & Hills, N Kayisii in his condolence note, described Peter as a noble man, bright soul and one of the tallest leaders for the people in Senapati district. He shared his deepest condolences to the bereaved family, near and dear ones of Late Peter and prayed for his soul to rest in eternal peace. 


Chairman, Autonomous District Council (ADC), Senapati, A  Kapapani described Peter as a great social worker who had worked relentlessly for the people of Senapati district. Kapani said that the demise of Peter was a great loss for the whole district.


United Naga Council (UNC) President Kho John, Naga Women Union Manipur (NWUM) President Asha Wungnam and All Naga Students’ Association Manipur (ANSAM) also extended condolences.


On behalf of NPF Central, President Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu and Manipur State NPF President Awangbou Newmei, NPF Working President (Manipur), T Robert Maram expressed deepest condolence and remembered Peter who had played a key role when NPF was launched in Manipur in 2011. 


Tenyimi People Organization (TPO) General Secretary, Vipopal Kintso, said it was "a great loss to the Tenyimi people at a time when we needed elderly guidance to guide us." 


Naga People’s Organization (NPO) Vice-President, David Adani Choro described Peter as a bold and outspoken leader with genuine conviction who contributed a lot to strengthen NPO and bring peace and unity in the district. 


Collective Leadership Member,  GPRN (Retd.) Lt General VS Atem in his condolence note described Peter as a leader who gave sweat and tears to gain a foot hold for the Marams as a people sandwiched in between bigger and stronger community, adding that now the soul of Peter can rest in peace "for Marams will no more gasp for a breathing space." 


Collective Leadership Member GPRN, Rev A Puni in his message, remembered late Peter’s immense contribution for the Maram tribe, Shepoumaramth Region and for the Nagas. 


Eulogies poured in from Apex Tribal Organizations and others including Maram Thangal Region, Poumai Tribe Union, Mao Council, Thangal Union, Mongsang Tribe Union, Chote Union, Senapati District Catholic Union, Maram Students’ Union (MKS), Northern Maram Peoples’ Organization (NMPO), Maram Centre Village Authority.
