Kohima, August 2 (MExN): The Confederation of Naga Farmers’ Union (CONFU) was formed recently with an objective to organise farmers unions from state level down to village level unions and Self Help Groups (SHGs).
It also aims at streamlining the various schemes and programmes of the government to the genuine and rightful farmers and entrepreneurs for the production of identified commercial crops, to create a feasible marketing system for small growers in Nagaland where small farmers have access to main markets both local and national markets.
Headed by Lanukaba as president, CONFU will also encourage the farmers for integrated and organic farming, to create avenues for self employment, to help women folk in the village to be economically self dependent and to enter into contract farming to ensure marketing/buy-back.
In order to familiarise and create awareness to the farmers with the concept of systematising and organising farmers for commercialising the crops, CONFU has designed series of training programmes and seminars which will be conducted in all districts and sub-divisions of the state, a release received here said.
For the ensuing winter season, CONFU is already entering into contract farming for commercial production of Kholar (French bean/rashma), oil seeds etc.
Further, CONFU welcomes all interested parties to join hand to realize the objectives. Activities of CONFU cover all Naga inhabited areas and its membership is opened to all Naga farmers, entrepreneurs, unions, societies, SHGs etc.
With simple procedures and formalities anyone can become a member of CONFU. For further information, one can also contact: confufarmer@yahoo.in
