Cong accepts NPF regret but wants HM out

DIMAPUR, SEPTEMBER 30 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has appreciated and accepted the “expression of regret by Dr. Shürhozelie, NPF President on Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen that the statement was of his own”. The NPCC in a press note however pointed out that after the “admission of fault by his own party he has lost all moral rights to continue” and that he should either resign or the Chief Minister should drop him.

While accepting “as rightly pointed out by the NPF President” that in a large family of political party, it is human for somebody to err at one point of time or other, the NPCC pointed out that however, in the case of Imkong L. Imchen, “it has been deliberate which has turned into an obnoxious habit”. “The public knows that the moment he opens his mouth, his foot will be in his mouth”, the NPCC statement said.

Terming it as very unfortunate that the Chief Minister continues to protect him despite repeated demands to remove him, the NPCC alleged on charges against him that included Rs. 18 crore fraudulent drawal in Police department, selling of arms and ammunitions from central Police store that greatly compromised the internal security of the State. The NPCC stated that these were solid grounds when the Chief Minister should have dropped him.

“His arrest in Kathmandu Airport for carrying cash more than the limit permitted, protest by the fourth estate for calling them yellow journalism and admission of foot in the mouth syndrome, flip-flops every now and then have been major embarrassments not only to his party but to the entire Nagas”, the NPCC stated.

Asking whether Imkong L. Imchen was so “indispensable”, the NPCC stated that it failed to understand “the compulsion on Imkong L. Imchen when there are so many legislators even among the NPF who are more competent than him”. “It appears that the strength of Imkong L. Imchen’s carefree ‘show of power’ is backed by some unseen forces that make even the Chief Minister helpless”.

The NPCC went on to state that however lofty he thinks he may be, the Home Minister was not above the power of the people and that it was high time that the Chief Minister “feels the pulse of the people and honor their demand”. The NPCC has also expressed surprise that the NPF President in his letter of regret had remained silent on the query of the Congress as to whether the NPF legislators are prepared to resign in favor of an honorable solution to the Naga political issue.

“It proved that the NPF is not serious and sincere in its commitment. The NPCC dares the NPF to come out clearly on this. The people of Nagaland can’t be fooled by its double-standard game plan. It is absurd to blame the Government of India that it has not come out with any notification, either on solution or election”, the NPCC stated.
