CLP submits memo to Finance minister

Dimapur, July 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Congress has submitted to the Finance minister a representation highlighting financial irregularities and funds said to be have been “mis-utilized” by the DAN government. The minister of DoNER was also met with, and urged by the Congress to verify project works being undertaken by the state government of Nagaland. 


The representation also contained a special reference to the law and order situation in Nagaland, the rampant extortion and also anomalies even within the Nagaland Home department itself. 

A delegation of 20 Congress MLAs consisting of Congress Legislature Party members and an independent MLA met Finance Minister Pranab Mukerjee on July 22 and submitted a memorandum to him. The Congress said the financial  position of Nagaland and the manner in which the funds have been “mis-utilized” by the DAN government was highlighted to him. The financial mismanagement is creating ‘tremendous financial constraints’ on the state exchequer, the Congress told him. 

The Congress expressed concern at the financial mismanagement which the party said has drastically affected the pace of development in many parts of Nagaland. This issue requires immediate intervention of the ministry in streamlining the rampant financial misappropriation, the Congress explained to Mukerjee. 

“The Finance minister took keen note of the representation made by many members and has assured of his cooperation,” the Congress said in a note received here. The MLAs also met Minister  for DoNOR BK Handique and submitted a representation demanding verification of projects  in the state whether or not they are being implemented. The minister was seized of the matter and assured of his assistance, the Congress said. It was also informed that on the 23rd of July, a meeting was scheduled with the Minister of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Dinsha Patel, Minister of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, Dr.CP Joshi and Minister of Home Chidambaram. 

The legislators highlighted the anomalies, irregularities and rampant corruption prevalent in the DAN government. 

The law and order situation in the state also found a special mention of the Congress to the centre. “The law and order situation and the extensive extortion in Nagaland and anomalies within the Home department were viewed with grave concern. The members also voiced their concern on the ongoing Naga political issue and have impressed upon the Home Minister that the Government of India should accelerate to resolve the long protracted Naga political problem to its logical conclusion at the earliest,” the Congress said.
