DIMAPUR DEC 14 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) while urging the parties involved in the ongoing Indo-Naga Peace talks to keep in mind the aspirations of the Nagas and sincerely pursue it until an honorable solution is achieved, has stated that it would be worthless to have entered into the ceasefire for such a long period if the ceasefire is abrogated without arriving at any solution.
In a statement issued by Nuzota Swuro, Vice-President the NPCC reminded that during the 60s, when the first Cease-fire was abrogated, Nagas had to go through severe periods of hardship and sufferings thereby losing many innocent lives, besides creating deeper divisions amongst the Naga national workers. “We do not want to bear the same consequences amidst the present peace talks between the Government of India and the NSCN (IM) leadership, which is said to be progressing in the right direction” the NPCC stated.
The NPCC also expressed disapproval over what it termed as provocative and dreadful statement by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, wherein ‘he had tried to threaten the Naga people by asking to “be ready for anything if talks fail”. The release declared that it was duty-bound upon the Chief Minister to create confidence and restore normalcy to curb any law and order situation and not asking the people to ‘be prepared if talks fail’. “His statements reveal his immaturity in leading the Naga people and inefficiency in tackling political issues into the right direction as claimed by him” the NPCC maintained adding that the DAN Government headed by Rio was taking the Naga people for a joy-ride by making false statements without understanding the seriousness of the political issue.
