Cong expose DAN’s fund misuse

Dimapur, February 24 (MExN): Making serious allegations of corruption against the previous NPF led DAN government, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has pointed out that the financial deficit of the previous DAN Government was reported to have run into a huge deficit of Rs 330 Crores which is still mounting. The NPCC in a press note issued by its Media Cell has stated that as far as the deficit goes, a figure of Rs 450 Crores is projected which is realistic. Terming this as a “record in mismanagement of funds in Nagaland’, the Congress divulged that the previous State Government received Rs 3,153 Crores for the financial year ending 31 March 2008.

“The DAN Government led by the NPF, where the CM, Rio held the Finance Portfolio as well as numerous others, was in such a hurry to empty the pockets of the people of Nagaland, that from the day they lost the majority in the assembly, the 13th of Dec 2007 till 22 Dec 2003 i.e, the last working day before Christmas, roughly Rs 340 Crores were drawn”, the NPCC alleged. To top it all, it was disclosed that on one single day i.e. December 22, 2007 a sum of Rs 92 Crores were drawn and thereby leaving the government penniless. “Thus, they left, leaving no money for the last quarter ie three months from Jan 2008 to March 2008”, the NPCC statement alleged.

The Congress while terming this as a “ruthless and selfish act” described the DAN government as a mother abandoning her child to the wolves. “The Rio Govt has abandoned the Govt Servants, the people’s programmes for welfare and development, for their selfish aim of amassing money for the purpose of Elections and their own use to retire in comfort. The NPF have no moral right to talk of Peace and Prosperity except for their personal gain”, the NPCC alleged.

Pointing out that a “regional party may boast of solving all issues locally and quickly as compared to a national party”, the NPCC however stated that the though decisions, plans and implementation and lastly payments by the NPF party are quick and clinical, it has resulted in a government which have broken all rules to reach the highest levels of corruptions. In local parlance it is a “khusi khusi government” without check and balances, it further alleged and pointed out that money ear marked under various budgetary heads have been changed by a few powerful people at the helm of affairs. “NPF is swimming in corruption”, the Congress stated.

It was also pointed out that no central government will have faith in a regional party, which by nature has no check and balances and no financial discipline for the issue of fiscal grants in future. “It will be worth mentioning that every big shot in the DAN ministry having anything to do with finance, starting from Planning Minister, Finance Minister, Chairman Public Accounts Committee and last but not the least the Speaker who had the right to enquire, were all from one community and one party within the DAN”, it was alleged.

The NPCC statement as such asserted that these proved that there was a design in hoodwinking the Naga people these last 5 years and described the “future as very bleak under regional government” as the State is wholly dependent on the central government for finance. The NPCC also made known that it will demand for an enquiry to the shady deals that have gone on during the last 5 years especially during the period November to December 2007.
