Dimapur, May 13 (MExN): The result of 26-Aonglenden Assembly constituency bye-election declared in favour of ruling NPF candidate Toshipokba has come as a set back to the congress party. Accepting the people’s verdict of the poll defeat in the 26-Aonglenden Assembly constituency bye-election, the Congress party of Nagaland stated “We are sorry for having come short of expectations.”
“We have learned lessons, we will come in a much greater way to fight the forthcoming election, be prepared”
NPCC, 26th Aolengden A/c bye election, Election Campaign Committee, Convenor, K. Therie in a press statement received here said it was the prayer of the people not only in the state, to elect Dr. S.C. Jamir for Nagaland needs to come out from the crossroads. However, the people of Aonlengden in their wisdom have given their decision. “We humbly admit and accept defeat. Whether it is wrong or right, it is the wisdom of Aonglenden Assembly Constituency,” Therie said while congratulating Toshipokba on being elected to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
The NPCC, however expressed sadness that the promise of the Constitution for free and fair election is far from practiced. No one is free from conducting unfair means. Officers on duty in the polling station are blind, deaf and dumb. They have allowed all wrongs to be carried out in the polling. “If any officer can claim that one man one vote was allowed after proper identification, I would apologize for dragging him/her in this. We are also sad that the promise of prohibition is completely violated,” Therie alleged.
He also added that the result was anticipated after the Electoral College was completely “terrorized. On the polling day, over 500 NPF youths rounded the polling booths preventing the congress voters from voting. Each NPF voter was allowed to vote repeatedly, some more than a dozen times. NPF’s victory is attributed to booth capturing and proxy voting.”
In the bye-election, the NPF did not raise any issue relevant and important to the present and the future. Election was two Govts Vrs Congress Candidate; under the same command. It was white and red terrorism, cash for vote, flow of prohibited wine and bolero and gypsy vehicles that have driven the decision. “I am sorry to note that the morals of Nagas have fallen this low,” Therie added.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the Election Campaign Committee, Therie has extended sincere thanks and gratitude to the voters who have stood by Congress candidate Dr. S.C. Jamir despite facing all unfair means. He also thanked all ranks and files of Congress Workers for their untiring support. “We have learned lessons, we will come in a much greater way to fight the forthcoming election, be prepared,” Therie further stated.
