Kohima | October 21 : Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) President SI Jamir today said it will not ignore the recommendations of the ACCI and DCC pertaining to the party’s ticket for the forthcoming elections by 2013. Referring to the party ticket distribution in the last election, he called it the ‘Congress wave.’ However, Jamir said, the party made a mistake and assured the party workers that it will not repeat again. He was speaking at the NPCC tour to DCC Kohima here today at Congress Bhavan.
The NPCC President “made the situation clear that in political party the third decision is there on ticket issue but assured that as far as possible it will not ignore the recommendations of the ACCI and DCC pertaining to party tickets. In this, he said, the responsibility is now shifted on them.
That the Congress has been in opposition for 9 years in Nagaland now and only a year and 4 months left to face the next elections, the NPCC president said and called upon party workers to develop a sense of ‘cohesiveness and trust.’
He also stressed on the need to be ‘well versed’ with the party’s position and strive for the positive.
Jamir described the grass-root party workers as the ‘true soldiers’ of INC. He said their effort and contribution will bring the party to greater heights. The Congress is not only a political party but a people’s movement, he said, a ‘movement to help the people, a movement to lead the people.’
Congress Legislature Party leader Tokheho Yepthomi also said that the party’s ticket candidates would be shortlisted by September-October next year. Hitting out at the Democratic Alliance of Nagaland government for the prevalent corruption and mismanagement, CLP leader Tokheho said ‘we are not checking it for individual benefit but for the benefit of the common people.’
Also, another Congress MLA C Apok Jamir, lamented that there is much corruption and mismanagement in the present DAN government. This, he said, is detrimental to the people and the party. He called upon the party’s workers to rise up and take strong steps. He asserted that the 125-years old Indian National Congress exists for a good reason. It is the masses’ party, he said, and the Congress is strong and will always survive and serve the public in the best possible manner.
He also told the party’s workers that whatever voice expressed by the NPCC or CLP chief before the public or other platforms is the voice of the Congress party. “Their voice is the voice of the party,” he said and told the party workers not to be confused but to be very clear on this.
Opinion and view may differ sometime, he said but there is always a room for negotiation and rectification. He reminded the party workers that no individual is above the party. “Congress is alive,” he said adding that it will bring changes to this state of Nagaland.
The programme was chaired by Prasilie Pienyu, president KDCC. The next leg of NPCC tour will touch Dimapur on October 28.
