DIMAPUR, DECEMBER 12 (MExN): The Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly Kiyanilie Peseyie who is also the Convenor of the Joint Legislature Forum (JLF) has informed that the meeting of the JLF scheduled at 11:30 am on December 13, 2012 stands canceled.
According to a press note from the Speaker the reason for the cancellation was “in view of the inability of the representatives of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee expressed through the Leader of Opposition to attend the meeting of the JLF”. As reported earlier, the meeting of the 20 members JLF executive was scheduled on December 13 at the official residence of the Speaker.
Meanwhile the NPCC held a meeting on 12th December 2012 which was attended by its Executives, Political Affairs Committee (PAC) Members and Legislators. This meeting was to deliberate on the proposed suggestion made by the JLF on 10th December 2012 to consult all political parties, civil societies and the church organizations to request the Govt. of India for deferment of assembly elections due in March 2013 till solution is arrived at.
According to a press note issued by its President SI Jamir, the NPCC leaders agreed with the suggestion made by the JLF on the condition that the Speaker of the Nagaland Legislative assembly is made the Convenor and convene a meeting of all political parties at the shortest possible time to deliberate for deferment of elections.
The NPCC stated that since the proposed working committee of the JLF does not include most of the political parties as they have no sitting MLA, the NPCC felt that it will be more befitting and appropriate to convene the meeting under the leadership of the Speaker, NLA.
Expecting solution, not the time to talk on elections: Dr Shurhozelie
Senior Naga politician and President of the ruling Naga Peoples Front (NPF) Dr Shurhozelie has refused to be drawn into talking about his party’s prospect in case they face election as scheduled. Speaking to Northeast Press Service (NEPS) on Wednesday, Dr Shurhozelie had this to say: “It is too early to talk for election. It is no time to talk for election.”
“We are expecting some solution even now,” he hinted. “For me, I still feel that it is not right time to talk for election.” It was, however, learnt that many people were preparing themselves to face election. “We can’t stop them,” he added while speaking to NEPS.
The NPF Supremo also praised the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh for his sincerity towards finding solution to the Naga political issue. “I met him (Prime Minister) for two times with our JLF members and listened to him,” he revealed and further added that, “In my own judgement, he (Prime Minister) is sincere towards finding solution to the Naga political issue.”
