Dimapur, Aug 4 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) is not taking too happily to the statements of Rajiv Pratap Rudy, senior BJP leader for accusing the UPA Government “without even realizing their (BJP) own failures while being power.”
“Rudy was the Union Minister for Civil Aviation and had visited Nagaland on the eve of the last State General Election 2003 but refrained to talk on either progress made by NDA Government on Naga peace or any other developmental activities. It was during the Congress Government regime under the Prime Ministership of Late Shri. Narasimha Rao that the Naga issue was declared as a Political issue and Ceasefire Agreement were signed between the Government of India and Naga underground factions” reminded NPCC President Hokheto Sumi in a statement here.
But after the NDA Government came into power they were “sleeping over the Naga political issue without making any headway and never showed any interest to solve the issue”, it maintained. “Nevertheless, the Congress-led UPA Government after taking reign at the Centre upgraded the Indo-Naga political talks from Bureaucratic to Ministerial level and the peace talk meeting was brought to monthly affairs, thus speeding up the peace process for early solution” Sumi contended.
The BJP’s claims that the NDA would have solved the Naga problem if it had come to power in the last election nettled the NPCC. “(It is) redundant because he was never associated on any matters related to the Naga Political issue in the past. It is only after he took the assignment in the Party organization looking after Nagaland he tries to project himself of knowing the problems of the Nagas and try to talk of solving the Naga Political issue” the NPCC stated.
Upping its attack, the NPCC also reminded that “It is a well known fact that the Anti Conversion Bill has been adopted in some BJP-ruled States but it is surprising to note Shri. Rudy’s upholding that BJP is fully committed to secularism, nationalism and patriotism”.
The Committee termed the statement as baseless since “Rudy appears to be a confused man himself because on one side he is admitting that the passing of ‘Religious Bill’ by BJP in Rajasthan was a mistake at the same time blaming the Congress to have blown out of proportion in order to gain political mileage”, the NPCC asserted. The NPCC stated that even in the recent days BJP ruled States are committing crimes against the Christian community by burning down Churches and torturing Church workers, who are rendering humanitarian services to the people. “The action of BJP workers against the Christians in the Hindu dominated areas are countless if we are to go into record of the atrocities committed by the BJP” the release maintained.
The NPCC also reminded Rudy that the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre has not given any programme ‘worth its name’ to develop Nagaland because of the reason that the State was ruled by Congress Party at that time. “Interestingly Shri Rudy while holding the post of Union Minister for Civil Aviation, repeated reminders were placed before his Ministry for installation of Instrument Landing System (ILS) by the Congress Member of Parliament, Lok Sabha from the State” the Congress stated adding that he was compelled to give direction to his Ministry to “dump” the ILS at Dimapur Airport without further progress on the installation to function. “ After leaving the Civil Aviation Ministry as Union Minister, Shri. Rudy is assuring that the ILS will be made functional for all weather purpose which is outside the purview of his authority” it stated while questioning Rudy whether the BJP has policy of making false claims despite being a “total failure Government on all fronts?”
