Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has disapproved of the recent appointment of NPF MLAs as advisors to several Government departments made by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio. Through its chairman of the NPCC’s media cell R. Paphino today, the Congress stated that Rio’s action has set a “very strange record in the history of Nagaland state and that “such pervasive deed can even enter Guinness book of world record as a dubious feat.”
According to the NPCC the standing government rules and procedures have been blatantly disregarded and “extra-constitutional authority” has been imposed by the DAN government in creating an “unlawful, illegal and unconstitutional status of MLAs as advisers in the state government departments.”
“This unauthorized action of the DAN government executed by the chief minister is a vivid instance of transgressing and undermining the executive authority of the affected departments,” the NPCC complained. The “institution of such unconstitutional authority usurped the powers and functions of those department officials,” it stated.
The NPCC pointed out that the recent development was a “naked and desperate ploy of the DAN government to cling on to power by hook or by crook which is not only unconstitutional but also not in the interest of the state apparatus and public at large”. As such, the NPCC has demanded that the so-called advisors must be removed immediately lest the Congress party will be compelled to resort to other course of action to dismantle the ‘anti-Government and anti-people's creation by the DAN Government.’
According to the Opposition Congress, the NPF-led DAN Government while assuming power, “proclaimed itself as a champion of people's cause and also portrayed itself as a protector and defender of rule of law, Government norms and procedures, dispense justice to all including Government establishments.” However, today, it ridiculed the regime, ‘after several years of managing the gala events of the state by the NPF-DAN leaders, it appears as if the DAN leaders are netting goals (suicidal goals) on their own side.’
“Much touted catering of good governance, accountability and transparency of DAN Government turned topsy-turvy today and instead the catchy declarations are preceded by what they called political expediency”. The NPCC stated that the rule of law and government norms are virtually twisted, bended, steered to one’s whims and fancies to make it certain that one remains in power. Further alleging the NPCC pointed out that for the DAN government “a metamorphosis have taken place wherein they have changed themselves into a fascist Government and behaving as if they can do anything under the sky without any compunction.”
