Cong will return to power: Thomas

The State Congress party will be elected with an overwhelming majority in the forthcoming elections, said Ranji Thomas, Secretary, All India Congress Committee today.

“The Congress party units of Nagaland state are the best in the country – organized and intact, Thomas said adding that the PCC, DCC, ACC, DYC, NYC,  NSUI and all ranks of party workers were enthusiastic and brimming with confidence indicating that the party is well on the path of forming the next government.

Somewhat relaxed after a hectic 8 – day tour of eleven districts, the secretary, who is also in-charge of Nagaland state, said that there was a growing resentment against the present DAN government for its inefficiency to control law and order in the state. Echoing the voice of the party workers, he said that law and order and deteriorated and the mechanism had virtually become non-functional.

Spelling out further, he said that there was total negligence of the farmer in the ‘year of the farmer.’ Joining the chorus, NPCC president Hokheto Sumi said the amount of money given by the UPA government for developmental activities in the state, has left much to be desired.

Highlighting the unemployment problem as expressed by party workers in the state, Thomas said that the unemployment crisis is visible in the state today and the DAN government has virtually failed on all fronts to cater to the growing demands of the talented Naga youth.

Keeping in line with the vision of its former leaders Rajiv Gandhi and Indira Gandhi, Thomas said that the unfulfilled dreams of the former leaders had prompted Sonia Gandhi to enter politics and share that concern with the people of Nagaland and the Northeast.

The talent of the Nagas is paramount and the Congress is the only party that can provide the grooming and recognition of this talent that could one day become an asset for region and country, Thomas said and asked how can a regional party have a national vision?

On the ‘open door’ policy of the Congress, Hokheto said that “anyone is welcome to join the party, provided they are prepared to subscribe to the policies and programmes of the state Congress party.”
