Phek, February 26 (MExN): The two-day interior tour of Phek district by Congress leaders as part of the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan, an internal organisational restructuring campaign of the Indian National Congress (INC), concluded on Thursday.
Addressing party workers at Pfutsero and Phek, AICC Observer Dr Biswaranjan Mohanty expressed satisfaction that despite numerous challenges, many dedicated and steadfast workers have remained committed to the party.
He said the INC played a foundational role in nation-building and had consistently championed unity, peace, mutual respect and the safeguarding of interests of all religious, caste and tribal communities to ensure equality and justice.
Mohanty stated that the Congress is not merely a political party but an ideology committed to promoting safety, unity and constitutional rights. He also criticised the policies of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, alleging rising violence against vulnerable sections, growing religious intolerance and attacks on democratic institutions. Such developments, he claimed, are creating a climate of fear and weakening the social and cultural fabric of the nation.

He said that under the leadership of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi and AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, the Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan was launched to empower grassroots workers to choose party leaders and strengthen organisational structures from the ground up through a transparent, accountable and democratic process.
Stating that his visit was aimed at listening to party workers, Mohanty said he was assessing their views and understanding their concerns to help shape a better future for the organisation.
Meanwhile, NPCC Observer and former MLA Toshipokba encouraged party workers to remain steadfast, asserting that their efforts would eventually bear fruit. Acknowledging the hardship of being in the opposition for over 25 years, he urged them not to abandon the cause, saying that doing so would negate their long struggle and sacrifices. He also thanked the AICC observer for extensively interacting with and deliberating with grassroots workers.
During his maiden visit to the district, NPCC Vice President in-charge of Phek district, W Akhum Yim, said the reformation exercise seeks to empower, encourage and instil hope among party workers while reinforcing organisational structures. He stressed the importance of grooming a new generation of leaders and working collectively with them.
Yim also thanked the president of the District Congress Committee (DCC) Phek for the warm reception and expressed optimism that the district would deliver favourable results for the party in future political contests.
Khosapa Venuh, president of the Phek District Congress Committee (PDCC), expressed gratitude to the visiting leaders for showing concern towards party workers and voiced hope for more such interactions in the future.
