Dimapur | December 21
The dramatics between the opposition Congress and the ruling BJP continued unabated. In Dimapur, following Friday evening’s protest by the Bharatiya Janata Party Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in alleged opposition turf, the Congress took to the press on December 21, expressing displeasure over the act.
The Congress’ various wings, led by the Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC), held that the protest was orchestrated in its district office, Congress Bhavan.
The DDCC President, Kutoho Chishi, termed the act of the BJYM as like a ‘kick to the stomach.’ He alleged that shops adjacent to the Congress Bhavan were also forced to shut down and questioned whether it was within their rights to do so.
According to him, the BJYM did not take permission to carry out the protest from the authorities. He questioned if the law enforcement authorities would have allowed such an act if it was the Congress.
He added, “If Congress workers were in the office and this happened and if there was a commotion, who would have taken the risk?”
He further said that the party will be consulting with its legal counsels for taking up legal actions.
The hullabaloo stems from the recent showdown between the NDA and INDIA bloc lawmakers in Parliament, and the allegation leveled against Rahul Gandhi by the Rajya Sabha (RS) Member from Nagaland, Phangnon Konyak.
The National Students’ Union of India, Nagaland unit President, X Chopika Sumi, termed Konyak’s allegation as devoid of evidence. He demanded evidence from the RS member supporting her allegation. “If she cannot, she should publicly apologise.”
National Coordinator & Nagaland State In-charge of the AICC’s Minority Department, Runith D’ Mellow, accused the BJP of creating propaganda instead of working towards development. Referring to the Manipur issue, he said that the ruling NDA should answer the questions raised in Parliament.
Queried on the Congress’ stand on the December 17 assault incident in Thahekhu village, the party said that such actions displayed backwardness. While stating that the police was investigating the case, it said that the process should be fair and thorough, and justice served.
