Congress has never opposed solution: Therie

Kohima, June 18 (MExN): NPCC today alleged that the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has not understood the predicament of the ongoing political negotiation. In a counter rejoinder to the NPF, NPCC President, K Therie said that peace accord was signed on July 25, 1997 and that it has been long enough to be able to assess the difficulties of the negotiating parties and also the impact and probable reactions and intervene to save the situations.

“NPF bluffed people for over a decade, saying ‘talk is in the right direction’. Today, they admit they don’t know the content of 3rd August 2015 Accord/Framework Agreement. Who should know?” Therie asked.

The NPCC President maintained that the Congress has never opposed solution; rather it has initiated Agreements and Peace talks, while the NPF has nothing to show. Responding to the allegation that NPCC is against solution, the rejoinder reiterated the party’s stand that “We will support if it is good for the people but we cannot give a blank cheque.”

It was also pointed out that NPCC has followed a laid down policy adopted in Pfutsero by its forerunner party NNO in 1972 “to endeavour to solve the political problem through peaceful and constitutional means.”

NPF leaders, it alleged, lack courage to venture or take responsibilities unlike "our" founding Naga leaders. “DAN’s Common Minimum Program of its election manifesto in 2003 vouched ‘to secure a negotiated settlement of Indo-Naga Political problem through peaceful means.’ In a major shift, NPF adopted a policy ‘to facilitate and support the ongoing talk.’ The act is nothing more than betrayal of trust,” Therie stated.

Meanwhile, he accused that the State Government has no opinion for the people they represent- in the political solution that will impact every citizen’s present and future life. “It means they have abdicated their authority of self-determination and protecting the life and property of the people as is provided in the Constitution.”

It is also wrong for the NPF to say that the past agreements have failed, Therie added. “They have achieved State Assembly that determines our future and the precious Art 371A. We have achieved near plebiscite demand.”

Asserting that the NPCC cannot and will not abandon the people of Nagaland, the President said, “We hear the voice of the church, the youth, the ACAUT, CNTC, NTC, Tribal Hohos and other organizations.”
