Demands implementation of Naga solution within ‘reasonable time’

The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) may start a civil disobedience movement all over the state if the final Naga political solution is “not implemented within a reasonable time or not assured.”
NPCC President, K. Therie on Sunday told media persons in Dimapur that the Congress party in the state would call for a protest bandh all over the state in the form of civil disobedience and would not allow the government to function if final solution to the protracted Naga issue is not implemented within a reasonable time. Although, he did not mention any specific time as to what the “reasonable time” meant, Therie made a mention of about 15 days.
He said there was no reason why the Naga solution should be delayed when the parleys had been successfully completed on October 31, 2019 by taking all Naga national political groups on board and stakeholders have expressed their views and also when the regional political parties had assured of paving a way for an honourable and acceptable solution.
“When the talks have been concluded, I do not see any reason why solution should not be implemented and keep the people in suspense and also the Naga national workers,” Therie queried.
The NPCC President reminded that the party had on January 17, 2020 passed a resolution pressing the Governor of Nagaland to honour the aspirations of the masses and implement the Naga political solution without further delay. He said the party had also demanded that the solution be implemented under a non-partisan government so that all Naga national groups and public remain benefitted.
‘Won’t accept CAA in any form’
Therie, who was addressing a press conference a day after returning from a tour to Tizit, Mon town and Longleng, said that the NPCC decided to tour all over the state to discuss and interact with the people on the issue of Citizenship Amendment Act. He said that the touring team found that the grassroot people were already aware of the dangers of the impacts of CAA. He reminded that the Congress has been opposing the Bill, which is now an Act, since it goes against the spirit of secularism and also discriminates the nation on the basis of religion.
Therie said that if the Act is not removed then “we will be submerged in the ocean of bigger communities and religion which was even feared by our ancestors.” He asserted that the Nagas would be overpowered by outsiders within two decades like that of Tripura. “Therefore, we are unable to accept CAA in any form,” he said and added that the NPCC would continue to travel to rest of the districts in the state in connection with the CAA.
He also castigated the legislators of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly and the two MPs of Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha describing them as “toothless” for being unable to protect the aspirations and safety of the people.
