Congress questions govt on IRB issue

KOHIMA, MARCH 27 (DIPR): I. Imkong, Leader of Opposition and K.V. Pusa, MLA again raised the matter of construction of 10th IRB Hq at Saijang and other matters related to it seeking clarification and explanation from the Government. They questioned the Government by saying that the reduction of tender costs, allotment of contract work, floating of tender were not done in an open and fair manner but in a clandestine manner. I. Imkong asked  the Chief Minister and Home Minister to assure the house that the tender work should be given on 2004 scheduled rate and also to bring down the cost construction to the scheduled rate. They also demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee to probe into the matter.

Home Minister, Thenucho while appreciating a healthy debate, called on them ‘to understand and know the reality.’ He said till now, the four IRB battalions had no accommodation while the 10th IRB after completing two years in Chhattisgarh will be phased out batch by batch. He added that at present 80 % of the works have also been completed and the matter was taken up on priority basis. He however left it to the wisdom of the house/members to see if the ongoing works was to be completed or stopped. He also added that the State Level Programme Implementation Committee (SLPIC) after reviewing the project has reduced the tender cost from Rs 39.947 to 25.837 crores to reduce expenditure.
