Pranav Shagotra, AICC observer in-charge of Nagaland, has urged the Congress leadership in Zunheboto district to mobilise maximum participation for the party's ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally scheduled to be held at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1.
Addressing party workers at the District Congress Bhavan in Zunheboto on October 28, Shagotra said the nationwide campaign, led by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, aimed to protect democracy, safeguard citizens' voting rights and raise concerns over alleged deletions from electoral rolls.
Shagotra, who was on his first visit to Nagaland and had arrived in the state three days earlier, claimed that a Special Investigation Team report had highlighted the deletion of around 13 crore votes from electoral rolls across the country.
He said observers were being appointed to examine electoral rolls at the district level and assess the number of votes listed and allegedly deleted.
Referring to Zunheboto district, Shagotra cited a figure of 1,04,277 votes and claimed that 11,513 votes had been deleted. He called for scrutiny of the electoral records.
He also alleged manipulation of voter lists and questioned the roles of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Shagotra maintained that every eligible citizen had the right to vote and urged people to support efforts to protect democratic institutions.
Calling for maximum participation from Zunheboto, he asked the district in-charge and district president to mobilise party workers and supporters to reach Delhi by the evening of October 31 or before 5 am on November 1.
Referring to a rally held on October 12, Shagotra said opposition leaders, state presidents, party workers, block presidents and assembly-level representatives from across the country had participated in the protest.
He expressed hope that the November 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan would draw a larger turnout and provide further direction to the campaign. He reiterated that Rahul Gandhi was raising issues concerning democracy and the rights of young people, women and citizens across the country.
