Congress should accept defeat: NPF

Dimapur, May 15 (MExN): Responding to the press statements issued by the Congress aftermath of their defeat in the Aonglengden bye-polls, NPF party today stated that as a responsible and mature political party, Congress should accept defeat in a gracious manner and respect the mandate of the people. NPF Press & Media Bureau in a press note said that to go on and on with excuses and complaints is nothing but a sign of being sour losers and at the same time it undermines the voice and mandate of the electorate of Aonglengden.
While asserting that the elections were conducted in free and fair manner, NPF party said the result of every polling station indicates that both contesting candidates had got reasonable amount of votes. In fact in most of the polling station, the margins between the candidates were quite close. Therefore there is no truth in the allegation of booth capturing, use of undergrounds or so called coup. “If indeed coup or booth capturing was carried out by anybody, then the other party will not get even a single vote,” it stated.
Commenting on the significant margin of votes in Ungma I station, NPF stated that people have rejected the politics of the Congress and of SC Jamir.
This message is even truer considering the fact that SC Jamir and the Congress were defeated in their strongest bastion and in their own backyard. Congress should not undermine the intellect of the Nagas. They will not be able to convince even their own high command in Delhi.
Further, NPF alleged that the statements of the NPCC President SI Jamir are another attempt by him and his family to divert the attention of the public. Jamir’s re-entry into State politics is nothing but a re-entry of the stand of the Bedrock of Naga Society and reiterated that the author and the party should publicly apologize and reject the booklet word by word.
Reminding the Congress on dismiss of former Minister in the Jamir Government K. Therie from the ministry and expelled from the party, NPF said that Rio resigned as Home Minister from the cabinet and also from the Congress because he refused to accept the booklet authored by SC Jamir and published by NPCC. In fact, on the very day, the booklet was released at Congress Bhavan at Kohima, Neiphiu Rio was the first person to oppose the contents of the booklet. Rio was also the first person to defend K. Therie when Therie was expelled. Rio parted ways with the Congress, because the disagreed with the political stand and policies of the Congress under Jamir.
This is the same case with the present Home Minister, Imkong L. Imchen. NPCC President SI Jamir and Leader of Opposition Tokheho are obviously unable to take neither the blame nor the morale responsibility for the Aonglengden defeat and therefore they have begun to look for silly excuses to divert the people’s attention but they should realize that it is to no avail. “The people will only mock at them. SC Jamir was till yesterday, one of the most illustrious leaders, but Congress leaders of the State have thoroughly misused SC Jamir and perhaps history will not remember SC Jamir as a statesman, which he would have had the opportunity to be,”  the NPF further added.
