In the presence of All India Congress Committee (AICC) officials, the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) today unanimously requested the incumbent President K Therie to continue to lead NPCC.

The approval of his name is being sent to Delhi, said Dr Ajoy Kumar, AICC in-charge Nagaland, who along with Ranajit Mukherjee, AICC Secretary in-charge of Nagaland and others, are currently in Nagaland to oversee the completion process of Congress party organisational elections in Nagaland.

Addressing a press conference here today at Congress Bhavan, Therie thanked the Electoral College of the Congress Committee for trusting his leadership to continue as the president of NPCC.

Therie said that the people of Nagaland are now prepared for change.

“We intend to intensify education to the village level so that they vote on issues that are confronting us, issues that will relief us and on issues that will salvage Nagaland,” he said.

He opined that the people of Nagaland have been deprived of their rights and the people’s aspirations have been ignored by the present government that has represented them for so long.

On the other hand, he said that the government can be changed only with the support of the people and not by Congress party alone.

He appealed to all the communities and all intellectual people to work together for a change in Nagaland.
Therie said that Congress will fight all the 60 seats in the next 2023 state assembly elections.

“Why should we give uncontested to the ruling party? We will fight all 60 seats. We cannot give even one constituency uncontested,” he added.

On the Naga political issue, he said that if BJP has any political will and if they are faithful in their own commitment, they should implement the political solution and settle it at the earliest possible time without any further delay.

He said that the people have to rise together in demanding early implementation of the Agreed Position and Framework Agreement.

Implementation of ‘Naga Accord’ hijacked by CM: Dr Ajoy Kumar

Meanwhile, Dr Ajoy Kumar said the people of Nagaland have been tortured and troubled for so many decades because of the non finalization of the ‘Naga Accord.’

We support the implementation of the ‘Naga Accord,’ the AICC official said.

According to Dr Ajoy Kumar, the only person preventing the Accord from happening is the Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and few of his ministers. He claimed that the CM and his ministers were hijacking the ‘Naga Accord’ so that they can continue to keep the state of Nagaland under perpetual trouble and uncertainty.

“Rio is thoroughly responsible and has been stumbling block and that is leading to the road of avoidable misery to the people of Nagaland,” he maintained.

He said that Therie has been raising the issue of the Naga people as without the implementation the ‘Naga Accord,’ the problems which Nagaland is facing today would continue to create trouble for the innocent people.
