Connecting Careers: First Mega Job Expo in Mokokchung underway

The first Mega Job Expo 2024, organised by Mokokchung District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) and District Skill Committee under the theme “Connecting Careers” got underway at Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung on January 30.

The inaugural programme was graced by Tongpang Ozukum, Chairman, Mokokchung DPDB and Advisor, Water Resources, Government of Nagaland. In his speech, Ozukum said though Nagaland is a small state, looking at the ratio, it has the highest government employees, with the government employment sector having reached the saturation point.

He stated that the ‘major portion of development funds’ is utilised in payment of salaries to government employees, and consequently, the government has started scaling down government employees and are employing proper recruitment process.

The Advisor, therefore encouraged the job seekers to avail opportunities provided by private sectors. He opined that ‘in order to know the real work culture, one should work outside and get to know the diverse work environment’ and understand the real meaning of ‘work culture’ and ‘value of money’.

Emphasising on the importance of skills in today’s world, he encouraged the youth to pursue a career that suits their skill set, and grab the opportunity to interact with recruiting agencies. He also hoped that the Mega Job Expo would benefit many job seekers, a DIPR input added. 

The keynote speaker, Er T Imlisunep Ao, Secretary, Planning Committee, said that the job expo was a sign of collaboration and unity where all ten elected representatives from Mokokchung along with various government bodies, armed forces, business association, NGOs and civil bodies have come together to support the initiative. He said that the event stands as a testament to the aspirations and dreams of the community.

He maintained that the job expo is designed to encompass three key components- job seekers, entrepreneurs and skillful exhibitors, who form the backbone of the event, fostering an environment conducive to growth, development and fruitful connections.

He encouraged the job seekers and everyone gathered to seize the potential that lies within the expo, empowering oneself and the community for a brighter and prosperous future.

Vinod Kumar, Vice-principal, Fazl Ali College; Mongkum Jamir, President, Business Association of Nagas; and Takumi Ishiwatari, Japanese Teacher, Arms Nagaland Centre also spoke during the inaugural programme. Thsuvisie Phoji, Deputy Commissioner, Mokokchung gave the welcome address while P Tiatemsu, member, Planning committee gave the vote of thanks. 

The inaugural programme was followed by two plenary sessions. The first plenary session has speakers from SBI, NABARD and NEDFi and it was moderated by Dr Imlinichet, Asst Prof, Department of Economics, FAC and the second plenary session had speakers from Emporium, IDAN and Pinnacle Skills and it was moderated by Lipokrenla, Asst Prof, Dept of Political Science, FAC.

Day one of the event saw 28 recruiters and prominent financial institutions taking part in the expo with more than 500 registered job seekers. 

Investment & Development Authority of Nagaland (IDAN), Business Association of Nagas (BAN) and Fazl Ali College, Mokokchung are the partners for this mega job expo. The Logistic Partners are Assam Rifles, Mokokchung Channel, Tir Yim Yim and The Morung Express.
