Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma will be leaving for Delhi on February 15 in connection with the recent peace offer made by the banned Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC).

“In my visit to Delhi tomorrow (February 15), I will be meeting the officials of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and I will be briefing them about the developments taking place and discuss with them on how to take this forward,” Sangma told journalists in Shillong today.

Stating that the process is in a very advanced stage, the Chief Minister said that the state government has already shortlisted the names of people for appointment as an interlocutor.

“Once we formally communicate and get a signal from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) we will take the next step forward,” he said while adding that it will be clearer once he makes the visit to Delhi.

On February 9, the HNLC had sent its official communication to the state government reiterating its readiness for peace dialogue without preconditions.

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma today said he expects that the meeting with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah will take place very soon for taking a final call on the border agreement on the six of the twelve areas of difference shared between Assam and Meghalaya.

On the border issue with Assam, Sangma told reporters that the two states have already submitted a joint report and joint statement to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

He further informed that the MHA has asked the Survey of India and other departments to give a report to them.

“I am presuming that the MHA is waiting for those reports to come in and I am sure that in a very short time, very few days, the MHA will call us (very soon),” Sangma said.

The Chief Minister also said that the Union Home Minister had called both the chief ministers last week but due to his busy schedule the proposed meeting had to be postponed.
