Consultation for formulation of SDG District Roadmap in Wokha

Wokha, August 18 (MExN): The department of Planning & Co-ordination held a District Level consultation meeting on formulation of district Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) on August 17 at DC conference hall, Wokha.

A DIPR report stated that State Nodal Officer, SDG & OSD (Planning), Nayantara Sashi Kumar IES while interacting with the Head of Offices under Wokha district said that, in the year 2015 all United Nation members States including India adopted sustainable Development Goals as a universal call to action, the SDGs consists of 17 ambitious global goals and 169 associated targets that serve as a blueprint for a better inclusive and more sustainable future. 

She said that SDGs serve as guiding principle to address a wide array of challenges, we are facing ranging from poverty and inequality to environmental degradations and climate changes, the SDGs frame work encourages us to approach development holistically, recognising that progress could be achieved focusing on just one aspect, whether its eradicating poverty, ensuring quality education or promoting gender equality.

The SDGs call for a coordinated effort that addresses these issues, she said to accelerate the implementation of SDGs in the State the SDGs was established in October 2019 with technical assistance from the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) under the department of Planning & Transformation. SDGs was established with a mandate to act as a centre for SDG knowledge disseminating capacity building, monitoring and policy strengthening and an acceleration of SDG implementation across the state. 

She said in 2021 Nagaland has released the Nagaland SDG vision 2023 which provides a three point for state to achieve the SDG goals by 2030, the sustainable development goals are asset of 17 ambitious global goals which tackles some of the most critical challenges of the 21st century, the core principle of the SDGs is to ensure economic and social growth keeping the environment at the crux of development planning, these goals focus on including the most marginalised communities with the aim to leave no one behind this section includes information about Nagaland State. This is the reason why we are gathered here to formulate SDG District roadmap for Wokha district. This roadmap will provide a structured approach to channeling resources knowledge and innovation towards the achievement of specific measurable and locally relevant targets aligned with Nagaland SDG vision 2030, the district unique challenges, priority areas, assets, strengths and opportunities are to be considered while formulating the roadmap. She also urged all departments in the district to fully take advantage of the district SDG roadmap for achieving the Nagaland vision 2023.

Keynote address was delivered by Deputy Commissioner, Wokha Ajit Kumar Ranjan (IAS). During the technical session SDG Officer Abilo Humtsoe highlighted on SDGs contextualising to the district, Nagaland SDG vision 2030, SDG district roadmap, SDG monitoring frame works, Wokha performance in National MPI 2023 and SDG indicators. Phyolumo Lotha presented on One-on0one department consultations for formulating the SDG district roadmap. The meeting was chaired by ADC (Planning) Wokha Y Orenbomo Humtsoe.
