
Mon, May 9 (DIPR): Consultative meeting on child rights under Mon District was held on May 8 organised by Child Welfare Committee in collaboration with World Vision India, Mon ADP at Walo Guest House, Mon.
Deputy Commissioner Mon, W. Honje Konyak said that the district has still a good number of underprivileged and deprived children who are not getting even their basic needs and for this sensitization programme is very much needed to identify the issues and problems faced by children. The society should be prepared to tackle all the problems faced by the children and should be reported, he stated.
Chairperson of Child Warfare Committee, Mon, Tuishimla in her keynote address stated that children need care, protection and overall development. Child sexual abuse and child labour is becoming very common where most of the cases go unreported. “People of the district need a lot of awareness on the issue and sexually abused child should be rescued,” she said. Tuishimla lamented that child labour is “very common and most of the children are going to other districts to work as servants.”
Programme Manager, World Vision India, Mon, Dr. L. Khobung also said that World Vision focuses on improving children’s well being through child focused transformational development, emergency response and promotion of justice (advocacy). And their goal is the sustained well-being of children within the families and communities, especially the most vulnerable. World Vision views the well-being of the children in holistic terms; healthy individual development, positive relationships and a context that provides safety, social justice and participation in civil society. Member Child Warfare Committee, Bangshing chaired the consultative meeting on Child Rights.
