Pfütsero, September 26 (MExN): The Nagaland Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (NVCO) in collaboration with Pfütsero Town Voluntary Consumers’ Organisation (PTVCO) conducted a consumer awareness campaign at Addl. Dy. Commissioner (ADC) Conference Hall, Pfütsero on September 24.
A press release issued by Press & Media Cell, NVCO stated that the campaign was attended by KALOS Society Pfutsero, Pfütsero Town Ward Chairman Union, Pfütsero Town Citizen Welfare Forum, Pfütsero Town GBs Union, Pfütsero Town Youth Organisation and Pfütsero Town Traders’ Union.
Adv. Kezhokhoto Savi, President, NVCO speaking to the gathering said that due to lack of awareness, consumers in Nagaland state are being exploited in many areas such as traders selling sub-standard goods and products in the market, excessive charges in price, deficiency services, frequent rise of price in goods and services, etc.
He highlighted the menace of illegal collection of taxes in the check-gates and on highways and several others including illegal deduction of certain percentage from developmental funds in a form of commission, party fund, etc. “The consumers are to realize that all illegal collection of taxes through price-rise and the practice of lease system, syndicate, etc are also added to that,” he pointed out.
Savi requested the administration particularly ADC Pfutsero to address the consumer grievances in the absence of District Consumer District Redressal Forum.
Savi has also highlighted as to how the distribution of supply has been doing under the National Food Security Act 2013 and the importance of implementing the Food Safety and Standard Act 2006 in the state of Nagaland.
He also encouraged the citizens of Pfütsero to continually promote organic vegetables and also protect the wonderful environment-God gifted nature.
Leaders from several union, forum, society or organisation including women took active participation in the interactive session. The session was led by PTVCO, President, Vetsurayi Tetseo. Invocation prayer was pronounced by Ngotso Basai Pastor, Rukizu Baptist Church, Pfutsero Town.
