Consumer awareness campaign touches Phesama Village

Kohima, May 1 (MExN): The office of the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Kohima and the Kohima District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, jointly organized consumer awareness campaign on April 30 at Phesama Village, Kohima on the theme ‘Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.’  

To create consumer awareness among the villagers, Bizo M. Kuotsu, Addl. Controller & HoD, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection Department gave the introductory speech. In his speech he highlighted the rights of the consumers and how to get correct weight & measurement and also how the Department can prosecute the unscrupulous traders under Legal Metrology Act and Rules. He also highlighted the importance of declaration in every packaged commodities where the consumers can directly complaint to the company as well as to the department and how to get registered under Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011 from the department.  

Speech was also delivered by Mhaleno Zashümo Tacü, Member Kohima District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, Nagaland. She shared the six basic rights of the consumers i.e. Right to safety; Right to information; Right to choice; Right to be heard; Right to seek redressal; Right to consumer education. She also minutely explained to the gathering, how to seek redressal in the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (District Forum), Nagaland State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (State Commission) and The National Commission.  

Haikambe Zeliang, Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protectiondepartment while addressing the gathering, highlighted that the rights of the consumers were respected and protected against market abuses and social injustice in this technology age. He also reminded the gathering that Legal Metrology Consumer Protection Act, 1986 protects the consumers from the unscrupulous traders even in the digital mode of business activities and transactions. The programme was attended by the Phesama Village Council, Phesama Youth Organisation, Phesama Students Union, Phesamiapfü Mechü Krotho, G.Bs Phesama Village, Phesama Gazetted Officers Krotho, VDB Phesama, Rtd. Senior Officers Phesama, Khel Councils, Churches, Villagers and staffs of Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Kohima, Nagaland.  

There was interaction with Phesama Gazetted officers Krotho and elders of the village on how to check the unscrupulous traders and to remedy it. The programme was attended by more than 300 leaders from various fields. A press release stated that the programme was led and concluded by Thejanguzo Zashümo, Advisor, Phesama Students Union, and i nvocation by Neitsole Mejura, Pastor, CRC, Phesama, and speech on behalf of the village by Vimedo Chuse, Chairman, Phesama Village Council.
