The Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, in collaboration with Loyem Memorial High School (LMHSS), Tuensang conducted a consumer awareness programme at the school premises under the theme “Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection: The Journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047.”

The programme held on September 10, was chaired by Chongkhei, teacher of LMHSS. In his welcome address, Kontok, Assistant Headmaster, LMHSS said awareness on consumer rights was crucial for students to become responsible citizens. He urged the students to develop a sense of accountability not only as consumers but also as future professionals who may one day serve society.

Delivering the key address, Er Yemjong BN Chang, Senior Inspector of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, highlighted the significance of accurate weights and measures in everyday life. He said consumer protection laws exist to safeguard the interests of the public from unfair practices and stressed that awareness must begin at the school level.

“Every individual, whether in towns or villages, is a consumer. Knowing your rights is the first step toward ensuring fairness and transparency in trade,” he told the gathering. Yemjong also encouraged students to be vigilant and report malpractice whenever they encounter it.

The programme concluded with vote of thanks delivered by Lemtimong, LDA of the department, who acknowledged the school for its cooperation and the students for their active participation.

The department has been carrying out similar awareness drives in Tuensang district as part of its outreach to promote informed consumerism and the vision of Viksit Bharat 2047.
