Contractors ask Rio to aid in release of funds

DIMAPUR, MAR 1 (MExN): Asking Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio to intervene in the release of their funds, the Dimapur unit of the Nagaland Contractors and Suppliers Union (NCSU) today stated that it would be compelled to take its own course of action unless payments are made before March 10. “We are of the opinion Sir, a man of your ability and caliber occupying the highest office of the State would not begrudge us of a mere Rs 16 lakhs only, which in the first place belongs to the contractors,” a release said.

While thanking Rio’s government for releasing Rs 6 crores to the NCSU, the contractors asked him to expedite the release of the seven/eight-month pending amount of Rs 16 lakhs sanctioned for Roads and Bridges deposited into the account of the executive engineers. Excepting the R&B divisions of Mon and Dimapur, all other divisions are said to have released money for payment.

“In this connection the unit office bearers and head office bearers led by Pele Khezhie, President, NCSU, Nagaland, met Minister, PWD on 24th June 2006 in his official quarter and he assured us positively that payment will be made at the earliest. However, till date there has been no action taken by the concerned authorities.”
