Dimapur March 23 (MExN): The Nagaland Government Registered Class-1 Contractors Union (NGRC-1 CU) has in what it said was a unanimous decision, terminated B Wati and his “coterie” from the membership of the union with immediate effect for challenging the election of the present acting President KC Angami and for displaying “unbecoming behavior,” “tarnishing and defaming the dignity of the Union” and for their “sudden outburst” through press statements published in local dailies date March 9 and March 20. The decision to this effect was taken on March 21 at an emergency meeting of the union held at Hotel Japfu Kohima, according to a press communiqué issued by Pukhato Shohe and K.C Angami, General Secretary and Acting President of the NGRC-1 CU. Further they were directed to refund to the union on or before the March 31 an amount of Rs 1, 90, 500 which the union said was misappropriated by B Wati while holding office as Vice-President.
Expressing surprise at the “sudden outburst” by B Wati and ‘his coterie’ in the local media, the Acting President KC Angami and General Secretary Pukhato Shohe reminded that the said persons were well present at the meeting during which KC Angami was elected as the Acting President on March 4. “Mr B Wati has congratulated KC Angami on his election as the Acting President in the presence of all members present in the meeting” the statement stated. It termed as “totally baseless and mischievous” the allegations leveled by the members in question that the acting President is not a member of the union. The reasons given were that the Treasurer of the union had clearly informed the house that Angami had paid his membership fees in full list at serial No. 2 of the Union Register on August 2, 2002 and that he had cleared the rent of the union office which were pending for the last several months from his personal source, according to the union.
In regard to the closure of the union’s office at Kohima by B Wati and his ‘coterie’, the meeting expressed strong resentment over such unauthorized act and resolved that the properties of the union would not be handled by a few vested interests. To the effect, the union resolved to reopen the office on March 22 for the smooth functioning and activities of the union. The house also strongly resolved to strengthen the hands of the union headed by KC Angami as the Acting President and General Secretary Pukhato Shohe to serve the best interest and welfare of its members in particular and the public in general.
