With barely hours left, the Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC) has called for withholding the inauguration of the Doyang bridge at Liphanyan. Home Minister, Amit Shah is scheduled to inaugurate the bridge today at 3:00 pm, virtually, at a programme organised by the Nagaland state government at Niathu Resort, Chümoukedima.

A letter from the NFHRCC, dated January 6 and addressed to the Home Minister, requested “cancellation of the virtual inauguration of the Doyang Bridge.”

As per the letter, the NFHRCC took offence to the state government not showing the courtesy to inform the former of the inauguration, today, despite it being at the forefront of a movement to construct the Nagaland Foothills Road, which resulted in the construction of the Doyang bridge at Liphanyan bordering Assam's Golaghat. The movement also saw the tribal hohos backing up the NFHRCC.

The bridge was originally scheduled for inauguration on December 14 by Chief Minister, Neiphiu Rio, but was deferred reportedly to allow Rio to attend the swearing-in of the new government in Gujarat.

“While anxiously waiting a response from the CMO, to the utter shock and surprise, it came to our knowledge this morning that the “Historic Project” will be inaugurated virtually by your Honour today at 15:00hrs without any intimation or knowledge of the concerned Committee.

Therefore, in view of the above facts and circumstances ,the committee hereby fervently appeal to your honour to kindly cancel the proposed inauguration in the interest of the Naga Public at large,” the letter said.
