Khar Village Council writes complaint letter to Nagaland DGP
DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): The Khar Village Council (KVC) in a press statement brought to notice an incident of police intimidation regarding the upcoming electoral polls. Chairman of KVC, I Imti Jamir in a press note stated that on February 4, Imliakum, a constable from the Mangkolemba Police Station threatened three Khar village youths, namely Purtoshi, Imkumba and Temendangba into giving support for candidate I Imkong. He further stated that the constable threatened to employ armed cadres against them if they refused to give in to his demands.
The press statement also alleged that constable Imliakum along with another individual named Sashimongba had used a few people to distribute Rs 2, 50,000 at Khar Village. The Chairman of KVC stated that the council intervened and seized some of the cash amount. He stated that the recipients of the distributed cash are willing to bear witness to the case. The press note stated that the KVC has taken a serious view of this incident regarding police involvement in ‘corrupt election practices’.
The KVC further alleged that constable Imliakum was also involved in bringing NSCN (IM) cadres to Mangkolemba in order to meet with the “town elders”.
This meeting on February 5 involved direction by the cadres to support candidate I Imkong in the upcoming election, failing which the town elders were threatened with “dire consequences”.
The Khar Village council has urged the department concerned to “take constable Imliakum away from Mangkolemba town” as he would tarnish the image of the Nagaland Police.
