New school building of Cornerstone, Zunheboto was inaugurated by Advisor, School Education, K.T. Sukhalu IAS (Retd) and dedicated by Rev. S. Yevito Sumi, senior Pastor SBCZ on April 19.
Speaking at the programme, Hosheto Achumi, Transport Commissioner (Retd) the proprietor of School said that his brother initially started the institution in 1994 under the name Hope Academy. However, since his brother joined politics and could not devote his time, Hosheto said he took over in 2010 and renamed it to Cornerstone. Hosheto said he had post retirement vision of contributing something to the society and particularly to Zunheboto and the Sumis.
Accordingly, new building construction of the school was started and completed in seven years. He thanked God for enabling him to construct new building having 41 rooms and an auditorium. The school starts from pre-primary level till Class 11 which starts this year.
Hosheto informed that even as he assumed the proprietorship of the School, it was actually run by a Trust and likeminded family circle making it a charitable institution on no loss no gain basis. The School plans to start college too at a later stage and then onto a university.
Later, Advisor for School Education, K.T Sukhalu who also spoke at the programme lauded the vision of Hosheto Achumi for running an institution for the people in Sumi headquarter.
He thanked the Chief Minister for allocating him the portfolio of School Education where he earlier served as Director and Additional Secretary. He pointed out that there were a lot of areas to be improved upon in the Department. Sukhalu said he learnt that some teachers who deployed proxy were awarded in the past. The Advisor said he was going to be vigilant about such issues. He opined that teachers’ award should not be conferred to government employees alone but even to those in private institutions. He also noted that private run institutions were faring much better as compared to government run institutions.
The Advisor was accompanied by his wife Hutoli; Secretary Finance and LRD, Y. Kikheto Sema IAS; Vihoshe Murru Vice President, Sumi Hoho; 5 Assam Rifles officers and a host of public leaders.
