Coronavirus outbreak: Nagaland dist admins order ban on hunting

Dimapur, February 21 (MExN): In view of the spread of novel coronavirus in China and the World Health Organisation (WHO) declaring it a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), the Home Department of Nagaland has directed the Principal Secretary and Commissioner of Nagaland and all Deputy Commissioners to issue orders to all village councils in their district to ban the hunting of wild animals in their areas.

 


Following the order, the Deputy Commissioner Tuensang, Kumar Ramnikant, IAS has informed that the movement of people crossing the international borders between India and Myanmar is strictly prohibited with effect from the date of issue of this order. “This is necessitated in the interest of public health and safety. This order will remain active till further notice,” Ramnikant stated in notification. 

 


The DC has notified a blanket ban on the hunting of wild animals is imposed within the jurisdiction of Tuensang District with immediate effect.

 


The Deputy Commissioner Mon, Thavaseelan K, IAS in a press release issued on February 20, stated that in compliance with the advisory issued by the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland, “hunting of wild animals and birds is banned within the jurisdiction of Mon district with immediate effect.”

 


Earlier, the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare, Government of Nagaland had earlier issued an advisory asking people to refrain from activities like hunting. The advisory said that hunting increased chances of contact of wild animals and wild animal products with humans.
