CoRRP slams govt’s continued inaction on reservation policy

Dimapur, June 30 (MExN): The 5 Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has reiterated its two core demands regarding the State Reservation Policy and expressed dismay over what it called “continued inaction” by the Nagaland State Government.

In a press release issued on June 30, the Committee acknowledged the announcement by the State Cabinet to constitute a Commission to review the current Reservation Policy. However, it said the State Government has yet to respond to their core demands — either to scrap the existing Reservation Policy or to allocate the unreserved quota to the five tribes represented by the Committee.

“During the meeting held on June 3, 2025, we had clearly and firmly conveyed to the State Government that it must come to a decision on these two fundamental issues. Unfortunately, there has been no substantive progress or official communication in this regard,” the Committee stated.

The 5 Tribes CoRRP also called for transparency and integrity in the formation of the proposed Commission, urging that civil society organizations (CSOs) be excluded from its membership. “This is essential to uphold the neutrality, fairness and integrity of the Commission’s work and to prevent any conflict of interest or undue influence,” the release stated.

The Committee urged the State Government to act “decisively and transparently” in addressing what it described as “long-standing concerns,” while reiterating its commitment to constructive engagement. However, it warned that it reserves the right to initiate “appropriate democratic measures” if the issues remain unaddressed within a reasonable timeframe.

The statement was jointly signed by Er Tesinlo Semy, Convenor, and GK Zhimomi, Member Secretary of the Committee.
