CoRRP welcomes Reservation Commission notification, with caveat

Kohima, September 24 (MExN): The 5-Tribes Committee on Review of Reservation Policy (CoRRP) has partially welcomed the State Government’s notification issued on September 22 constituting a Reservation Commission, but has raised concerns over its nomenclature and scope.

In a statement, the Committee noted that the formation of the Commission had been delayed for over 100 days since the State Cabinet first agreed in principle to constitute one on June 12.

According to CoRRP, the September 22 notification refers only to a Job Reservation Commission, which, the Committee said, deviates from the June 3 meeting between the State Government and CoRRP.

At that meeting, both parties had agreed that the Commission should be constituted as a Reservation Review Commission tasked with reviewing both job reservations and technical and professional educational seats, it highlighted.

This was also reflected in the State Cabinet announcement on August 6, it added.

Accordingly, the CoRRP has urged the government to rectify the nomenclature and set the Terms of Reference in line with the June 3 decision.

The Committee stated that, pending such rectification, its resolution passed on September 20 to proceed with agitation after September 30 remains in effect.
