Kohima, October 11 (MExN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee has sought intervention of the All India Congress Committee’s (AICC) intervention to change the vote counting date of bye-election to 43rd Tapi Assembly Constituency fixed on December 3, as it falls on a Sunday. In a letter to the AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, the NPCC pointed out that as a Christian dominated State, Sunday is solemn day of worship for the entire Christians. The letter from NPCC President S Supongmeren Jamir accordingly sought the AICC intervention and also urged the latter to apprise the Election Commission of India so as to help the party in particular and the Christian population in general. On October 10, the Naga People’s Front has also written to the ECI for reconsidering the vote counting date as it falls on a Sunday, a sacred day for Christians.
