COVID-19: Mon district admin appeals to take preventive measures for containment

Mon, July 2 (MExN): In view of the increase in the numbers of COVID-19 cases in the district, the Mon District administration issued advisory appealing all to gear up to take proactive approach of preparation and to take necessary precautions and preventive measures for containment.


DC Mon, Thevaseelan K, IAS in the advisory issued on June 27 stated that this implies living with the assumption that every person could be asymptomatic mobile carriers of the COVID-19 virus, with a probability of transmitting the virus to others unknowingly.


The DC said by assuming that everybody is an asymptomatic person we will be more cautious and responsible for our actions and thus help in reducing the risks of community transmission.


Therefore, the DC requested citizens of Mon district All to follow these three cardinal principles for prevention of COVID-19 transmission: compulsorily wear face mask at all times; practicing hand hygiene by frequently washing hands with soap and water or hand sanitizers; and maintaining social distancing at all times in personal space and work environment. 


In another order, the DC made a request to compulsorily wear face mask at all public places/work places and strictly prohibit spitting in work place public place is strictly prohibited. The offence for both the directives will be punishable with a fine of Rs 100, the DC said. 

 

Self-report on June 22 funeral 
In continuation of Office of the Deputy Commissioner Mon, Chumlamo Humtsoe SDO (Civil) Sadar issued a notice on June 29, in view of the detection of COVID-19 positive case in Mon Town, all the persons who have come in close contact with the positive persons during the funeral at Thamnan Ward on June 22 or otherwise have been advised for self isolation themselves till their tests are conducted by Medical Department. They are also requested to contact the following numbers: 9862780643, 9856015152 and 8974225174.

 

Selling/buying of eatable items in QCs prohibited
In a separate order, the DC Mon said that it has been reported that some residents in the quarantine centers are engaged in selling/buying of eatable items like biscuits, snacks, pickles, etc at exorbitant rates and indulging in such activities inside the quarantine center.


The DC has strictly prohibited the buying and selling of any items inside the quarantine centers, warning that anyone found violating the order will be punished appropriately.

 

Panic buying of Chloroquine and Ampicillin in Mon Town  

Panic buying of Chloroquine tablets and Ampicillin capsules was reported in pharmacies around Mon town without any medical prescription. 


The Chief Medical Officer, Mon in a notification issued on June 28 informed that the mentioned drugs consumed without medical indication can be dangerous and life threatening because of side effects associated. The side effects could be drug allergy, nausea, vomiting, liver and kidney damage, and cardiac arrhythmias etc. 


Also any pharmacy selling the drugs without doctors' prescription will be liable for prosecution under relevant provision of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940. 


“This is for strict compliance for the safety of all concern,” the CMO added.
