COVID-19: Nagaland’s daily positivity rate at 11.24%

Dimapur, July 12 (MExN): The cumulative tally of COVID-19 infections in Nagaland crossed the 26,000 mark on Monday with the confirmation of 76 new cases from nine districts. The new cases were detected from 676 samples that were tested in the last 24 hours with a daily positivity rate of 11.24 percent. 

According to the daily bulletin issued by the state Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), the new cases were reported from Mokokchung (22), Dimapur (19), Tuensang (11), Mon (6), Kohima (5), Longleng (4), Wokha (4), Zunheboto (4), and Phek (1). A total of 39 new cases were detected during self tests and random tests, 34 from traced contacts, 2 from returnees/travellers and 1 from armed forces/security personnel. 

The COVID death toll in the state rose to 497 on Monday as four more deaths were reported from Kohima, Mon, Peren and Zunheboto.  Besides the COVID-19 related deaths, a total of 14 deaths were categorised as ‘not COVID-19 related’ in the IDSP bulletin. 

On the other hand, 83 patients who had previously tested positive for the virus recovered on Monday, taking the number of recovered cases to 23,858. The recoveries were reported Kohima (47), Dimapur (10), Mokokchung (10), Tuensang (6), Mon (5), and Phek (5).  

With this, the active case count in the state now stands at 959. 

District wise status

Among the districts, Dimapur has the highest number of active cases at 256, followed by Kohima with 247 and Mokokchung with 227. Mon district has 40 active cases, Zunheboto (37), Kiphire (31), Wokha (31), Phek (28), Tuensang (26), Peren (19), and Longleng (17).

For data reporting, Noklak district comes under the Tuensang district as there is no separate surveillance unit for Noklak.

In terms of severity of cases, 800 active cases were asymptomatic, 101 were mild symptomatic, 30 were moderate on oxygen, 13 were severe on oxygen, 7 were in ICU (without ventilator) and 8 were in ICU on ventilator, according to the IDSP bulletin.

The bulletin also stated that 100 active cases were currently admitted in COVID Hospitals across the state and 827 are under home isolation.
