DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): The Commissioner of Police, Dimapur has implements action plan for air pollution prevention in the city of Dimapur for the financial year 2023-24 under the National Clean Air Programme (NCAP) initiatives.
In a press note, the CP, Dimapur informed that various activities were taken up on a wide scale in accordance to the NCAP plan. Enforcement and awareness drives were undertaken to check vehicular emissions creating air pollution through checking Pollution under Control Certificate (PUCC), pamphlets on ‘Together For Clean Air’ in English and Nagamese were distributed widely to the public, it stated.

NCAP hoarding display boards were installed at traffic islands located around Dimapur, ‘Do not burn waste’ display boards were erected at public places where wastes are randomly burnt.

The CP stated that these initiatives were taken up in an endeavor to create awareness especially in regard to vehicle generated pollution whereby more than 70% of air pollution across the world is caused by motor vehicles.
The fuel on which a vehicle runs get burned inside the engine which in turn emits carbon dioxide (contributed to climate change and global warming) and harmful gases such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxide, particulate matter (PM) and other volatile organic compounds, the CP highlighted. These gases degrade the quality of air and hamper the health of a person to a dangerous extend while the emissions can cause smog, heart, lung disease and cancer, he added.

With rest of the country, CP, Dimapur under the flagship of NCAP had undertaken the above cited initiatives aiming to encourage the netizens of Dimapur to make a conscious effort and contribute towards improving the air we breathe, the press note stated.
