CP Dimapur to enforce stricter measures against illegal lottery sales

Reiterates that only two authorised distributors allowed to sell lotteries

Dimapur, June 11 (MExN): Commissioner of Police (CP) Dimapur today stated that only two distributors have been authorised to sell lottery/games in the State.
The two authorised distributors are M/S Future Gaming & Hotel Services Pvt. Ltd with a local Brand office at Kohima and M/S West Bengal Lottery Stockists Syndicate Pvt. Ltd with a local Brand office at Kohima.

The sale of lottery/games apart from the two authorised distributors is illegal and in contravention of the Lottery (Regulation) Act, 1998, the CP stated in a press release issued in "view of rampant illegal sale” of lottery/games in the three Commissionerate districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland.

The release reiterated a notification by the Government of Nagaland stating that the sale of lotteries adheres to the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998; the Lotteries (Regulation) 2010 and the Nagaland State Lotteries (Regulation) Rules 2022 through its authorized distributor.

Henceforth, the CP stated that punitive measures under Section 7 of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act, 1998, would be strictly enforced immediately to curb the illegal sale of other State Lotteries/distributors not authorized by the State Government.

Any individual/party found guilty will be booked under section 7(3) of the Lotteries (Regulation) Act 1998.

The section reads: “If any person acts as an agent or promoter or trader in any lottery organized, conducts, or promotes in contravention of the provisions of this Act or sells, distributes, or purchases the tickets of such lottery, shall be punishable with rigorous imprisonment for a term which may extend to 2(two) years or with a fine or with both."
The offence under the Act shall be cognisable and non-bailable, it added.
